A great opportunity for anyone interested in outdoor arts performance
As part of the Reading-on-Thames Festival 2017, there is an amazing opportunity to work with one of the UK’s leading outdoor arts companies, Walk the Plank on a special outdoor theatrical event in Reading.
Walk the Plank are looking for 20 volunteers to interact with the audience at River Stories, one of the festival highlights, at Caversham Court Gardens on 16 September. The volunteers would be working alongside Writer and Assistant Director Paschale Strainton. Paschale is a specialist in interactive outdoor arts performance and will work with volunteer performers to learn new skills around improvisation, storytelling and chorus work.
River Stories will be performed to a large audience watching from the banks of the Thames at Caversham Court Gardens. The spectacle will take its inspiration from the folklore, traditions and ecology of the magnificent River Thames as it winds its way through Reading. River Stories will be a multi-sensory spectacle to delight people of all ages with poetry, music, lights, fire and pyrotechnics.
Walk the Plank is one of the UK’s leading outdoor arts organisations, creating unique outdoor shows across the UK and all over the world. In 2017, they have already staged the opening ceremony to celebrate Pafos as 2017 European Capital of Culture. They also produce the annual Manchester Day Parade and in 2015 won Best Outdoor Event at the prestigious Event Awards for their weekend of events, including a floating Loch Ness Monster on the River Foyle, as part of the Derry-Londonderry UK Capital Culture celebrations.
The volunteers will play an integral part in establishing the excitement and anticipation around the show as well as playing a full part during the show itself. Volunteers will receive a full briefing ahead of the event and spend time developing their role.
To take part, you will need to be 16 or over, be available on the evening of 14 and 15 September for rehearsals and the evening of 16 September for the performance.
If you require further information or would like to sign up for this role please contact Clare Danon, Production Manager at Walk the Plank on 0161 925 0666 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
