Emanating from the University of Reading’s highly regarded Art Department, Reading International is a three year project to make Reading a major centre for the visual arts. Many artists have made Reading their home as witnessed by the vitality of the many studio trails, including the Whiteknights Trail and Open For Art, organised by the jelly artists collective in the town centre. The Madejski Gallery in Reading Museum has a strong exhibition programme and impressive collection and Art Scope Gallery is a new gallery space for the town.
Reading is home to one of the most prestigious schools of graphic design in the UK. The typography department at the University of Reading lists among its alumni Coralie Bickford-Smith and Paul Barnes. The town is also home to numerous design agencies.
